The Power of Perception

New Zealanders are considered to be one of the most internet savvy people in the world. Hence, most businesses here have a website. The website could very well be the first point of contact for potential clients of a business. People want to see what a certain business has to offer through their website.

Since majority of Kiwi businesses are mostly small enterprises, potential customers want to see what the people running that business look like. How a business owner presents himself or herself on the website can affect the perception of customers on the quality of work they produce.

Think about it. We go to Facebook and we see somebody whose profile picture shows him getting wild at a party. How would you perceive that person? Probably he's a fun person to be with at a party. Now, what would happen if the same person takes that same photo and puts it on LinkedIn? How would you perceive that person? I don't think you would want to hire that person. Thought that is a pretty extreme example, we have probably seen something similar in our social media sites.

Now, consider the before and after website screenshot juxtaposed below. We made a screenshot of Claire's business website profile before we took her headshot and after taking the headshot. If you don't know Claire personally or haven't done business with her, which Claire would you prefer to do business with?

That's the power of perception.
